2021년 우리가 좋아하는 기사들
2021년이 얼마 남지 않았다. 한 해를 마무리하면서 MIT 테크놀로지 리뷰의 기자와 편집자들이 뽑은 올해 가장 마음에 드는 기사들을 정리해 보았다. “MIT 테크놀로지 리뷰를 위해 일하는 게 자랑스럽다고 느끼게 만들어준 기사가 무엇인가?”라는 질문을 던져 받은 답변을 토대로 정리한 기사들이다. 단, 본인이 쓴 기사를 뽑지는 못하게 했다.
기사 선정 과정 중에서 가장 많은 호응을 받은 기사는 Karen Hao가 쓴 페이스북에 관한 다음 기사이다.
이 기사에 대해서 에디터인 Abby Ivory-Ganja는 “페이스북 AI 총괄인 호아킨 퀴노네로 칸델라를 통해 페이스북이 처한 문제들을 뛰어나게 설명해줬다”면서 “이 기사는 올해 MIT 테크놀로지 리뷰 기사 중 가장 많이 읽힌 기사 중 하나”라고 말했다.
뉴스 에디터인 Charlotte Jee는 “3월 기사가 나왔을 때 파장이 엄청났다”면서 “페이스북이 자사의 알고리즘이 사람들을 해로운 증오 콘텐츠로 유도했는지에 대해 어느 정도 알고 있었는지를 고통스러울 만큼 자세하게 드러내줬다”라고 말했다.
